Increasing women and girls’ education contributes to higher economic growth. Increased educational attainment accounts for about 50 percent of the economic growth in OECD countries over the past 50 years. Literacy is the foundation for learning, yet there are still 750 million illiterate people in the world. Two thirds of the illiterate population are women and girls, and an additional 250 million are not learning in primary school. It is our belief that everyone should be afforded the opportunity to receive an education. A quality education can open doors of opportunity that breaks the cycle of poverty in families and improve their quality of life.
